Commodity Forwarders, Inc. was incorporated in 1974 by Alfred Kuehlewind. It started as a one-man office in Los Angeles, specializing in perishable products; primarily strawberries to Europe, via air. Since then Los Angeles has moved beyond air export, into ocean export, domestic air freight, imports and distribution services. The Los Angeles location has allowed clients to source product from and distribute product to Mexico, Arizona, Central and Southern California. Los Angeles also acts as a reliable transit point of South Pacific goods for Eastern United States distribution and European Transshipping.
In 1981 an office was opened in Hilo, Hawaii, specifically to handle flowers and perishable products from the big island. Since then offices have opened in Honolulu, Maui, Lihue and Kona to handle a number of perishable commodities from papaya, pineapples and flowers to nuts, seeds and fish providing refrigerated distribution throughout the islands. In 1988, the San Francisco, CA office was opened to service the Salinas/Watsonville and North Central Valleys along with distribution to the San Francisco and Central California retail distribution centers.
In 1998, we saw the opening of our Miami, FL. location to allow better access to the United State consumer market for Latin America as well as to assist exporters of Florida product and transshipments to Asia and Europe from Latin America. In May 2003, the opening of facilities in both Anchorage and Seattle allowed for better servicing of the perishable markets to and from the Pacific Northwest.
Finally, in 2007 we seized the opportunity to open in New York and tap into a new business segment consisting of trade shows, exhibitions and work for the US consulates. Our agent relationships in the Northeastern and Southeastern United States in cities such as Boston, New York/New Jersey, Washington DC and Atlanta along with the Midwest for Chicago and Houston allow Commodity Forwarders Inc. to handle customized temperature sensitive cargo programs throughout the United States.
Relationships with logistic providers in Europe, Middle East, South Pacific and Asia have allowed us to work on door to door programs when requested and better understand the changes in worldwide commerce. Commodity Forwarders has remained focused on maintaining relationships with financially secure logistics market leaders that have a perishable and time sensitive sense of urgency, not just as their mission statement but in performance as well.
